Day 1:

Today we start our nature and cultural adventure by leaving from Paramaribo in southern direction. By Paranam the asphalt road turns into a laterite road; on the way we pass impressive giant trees and villages along the laterite road. After about 190 km we arrive at Atjoni, the docking place where the exiting 45 minute dugout-journey starts. We navigate 45 minutes on a motorized dugout to the comfortable Anaula Nature Resort, near the Felullasi-waterfalls, where you will spend the night. During this boat journey we pass breathtaking nature and several Maroon villages. We also pass through the rough waters of the Jaw Jaw-rapid. After checking in, you have the opportunity to go and explore the resort. After dinner the tourist guide gives some information about the surroundings and the culture of the Saramaccaners.

Day 2:

In the morning we have time to go fishing, swimming or just relaxing in a hammock by the river to enjoy the nature and the incredible views from the island. After lunch we take a hike through the forest on the island on which the resort is located. During the hike we get information on how different plants in the surroundings can be used as medicine. During the 1986 war in the interior, the jungle commando's led by Ronny Brunswijk, came to this island for their 'immortality rituals'. The remaining of these rituals reminds us of a unique piece of Surinamese history. After the hike we navigate to an uninhabited little island in the Ferullasi-rapid. This island has a beautiful beach, where we can relax, swim and enjoy natures own whirlpool. After dinner we go on an exiting adventure to look for Caymans. During this nightly navigation you can also enjoy watching the stars and the silence of the Amazon rainforest.

Day 3:

After breakfast we navigate to the village New Aurora. During the tour through the village you will get to know the local inhabitants, their unique way of life and their traditions. We also pay a visit to a mission post with a church, primary school and a medical post. From Aurora we walk to a nearby village called Gunsi, where our dugout awaits us. During this walk we pass by fields of the local inhabitants. After diner we can enjoy a show of traditional cultural dances. Dances like Seketi, Awasa en Bandamba will be performed for us. Our tour guide will explain what the meanings of these dances are.

Day 4:

You can spend this morning doing whatever you like. You can go kayaking, swimming, take a walk in the forest, relax in the lounge or in a hammock or just enjoy the peace and silence of nature. After lunch we navigate back to Atjoni, from where we will leave on a bus to Paramaribo.

Day 5: (if you choose the 5 day package)

This morning, you will have some free time spend however you chose. In case you chose for a 5 day package, you can make an excursion on day 4 to the mighty Tapawatra-rapid, located nearby the place where the rivers Gran Rio, Pikin Rio, and Boven Suriname Rivier come together. The price for this excursion is EURO 35, - per person (with a minimum of 6 persons)
